Our story
I have always loved crochet bags. Long before I made it my profession, long before Mirabelle — when I was still a little girl sitting on the floor next to my grandmother, watching her turn a hook between her fingers as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
What fascinated me was not the result. It was the fact that there was nothing, and then, a few hours later, there was something. A thread, a gesture repeated a thousand times, and an object appeared. Not a machine, not a factory: two hands and a lot of patience.
Why crochet
A crochet bag does not hide. You can see every stitch, every row, every place where the yarn changed colour. There is no seam hiding a shortcut, no industrial finish smoothing over flaws. What you hold in your hand is exactly the work that was done.
That is why I came back to it. In a world where everything looks alike, where you buy the same bag as thousands of other people, crochet keeps one rare thing: it carries the trace of the person who made it.
Time is the raw material
A small model takes a day. A crossbody bag, two or three. There is no shortcut: the yarn moves at the speed of the hand, not of a machine. I do not experience this as a constraint, but as the very thing that gives the bag its value. When you know how many hours are in it, you set it down differently on a table.
I choose the yarns one by one — dense cottons, which keep their shape and do not go out of form by the third wear. The leathers, chains and clasps come afterwards, and I match them model by model. Nothing is ordered in bulk. Each piece is decided separately.
Mirabelle
Mirabelle was born in a room of our home, with a lamp, a table and far too many balls of yarn. That is still where everything comes from. The photos you see on the site, we take ourselves — that is why the background is a little grey, a little soft: it is that of our studio, not a catalogue's.
Each bag leaves our home wrapped by hand. If you ever hold one, you will know exactly where it comes from and how many hours it took. That is all I wish for.
Thank you for stopping by.
