Workshops
Coming soon
For a few months now, I have always been asked the same question: can I learn to make one? The answer is yes. Much more easily than you think.
I am preparing a series of workshops to teach you to crochet your own bag, from the very first stitch to fitting the clasp. No jargon, no unreadable diagrams — videos filmed above my hands, where you can see exactly what the fingers do.
What you will learn
- Holding the hook and the yarn. The position of the hands, the tension of the yarn — it is 80% of the result, and nobody ever explains it properly.
- The base circle. The magic ring, regular increases, and how to get a perfectly flat base that does not warp.
- Working up the sides. Going from the base to the body of the bag without a visible step, and keeping an even height all the way round.
- Texture stitches. The basketweave stitch, the fan stitch, the raised scales — the ones that give relief and make all the difference.
- Changing colour cleanly. Crocheting stripes into the fabric, with no sewn-on seam and no stray thread.
- The finishing touches. Lining the inside, fitting a zip, attaching leather or wooden handles, riveting a plaque. It is the step that separates a piece of work from a bag.
The materials
Nothing intimidating, and nothing expensive to start with. Here is what you need to get going:
A 5 to 7 mm hook
Choose an ergonomic handle, not a bare metal hook: after two hours, your hand will thank you. Allow €5 to €12.
Jersey yarn
The famous “trapillo”. A 1 kg spool is enough for a small bag. Avoid yarn that is too stretchy, as it loses its shape. €10 to €18 a spool.
Stitch markers
Essential so you do not lose the start of the row. A pack costs €3 and will save you from undoing everything.
A yarn needle
Large eye, rounded tip. To weave in ends and sew the lining. Under €3.
Scissors & tape measure
You already have them at home. Keep them within reach.
The hardware
Zip, handles, rivets, snap hooks. We choose them together in the last lesson — no need to buy beforehand.
The planned formats
Level 1
The clutch
Three evenings. You leave with a striped, lined and zipped clutch, made by your own hands. No prerequisites.
Level 2
The bucket bag
The round base, the texture stitches, fitting the handles. The model everyone wants to make first.
Level 3
The flap bag
Leather, rivets, magnetic clasp, structured lining. The level where you move from needlework to leathercraft.
